Pulling up on Itunes it detects it in recovery mode but as I go to reset it gives me different codes each time such as 2005, 2006, 4014, 4013. I don't know what to do to revive this thing. Any advice? Please advise I'd appreciate it.

I've also encountered this problem, and you have to break the recovery mode so that your phone doesn't crash

I think he was trying to restore to an iOS version which is closed by Apple.

For the past couple of weeks the View First Unread button at the top of each thread has not been working for me. Anyone else having that problem?

I think you can try to hard restart your iPhone first.
Press the Wake button and Home button at the same time for about 10 seconds.
You can also use some system repairing tools such as TunesKit iOS System Recovery that can repair the malfunctions without any data loss. Use this tool can get out of the Recovery mode with 1 click.
Or I think you should ask Apple support

Hey,
Hope you have solved your question.
To get your iPhone out of DFU mode, apart from hard reset, you can also try a third party tool, like TunesKit iOS System Recovery. This tool can let your iPhone exit DFU mode easily and quickly.
