Fry Phone Brand new iPhone 7 ‘catches fire’ whilst charging up on its owner’s bedside table

Woman was woken in the middle of the night by a 'cracking' sound before her iPhone allegedly began to belch smoke.

A woman has claimed her new iPhone 7 spontaneously caught fire one night while charging on a pillow next to her head.

The angry Apple customer, whose surname is Chen, said she had used the iPhone 7 Plus for just over a month after purchasing it new in March.

She was asleep at her home in Nanjing, the capital of East China’s Jiangsu Province, when she was woken up at about 2am local time by “cracking” sounds coming from her handheld device. which was plugged in and charging up. It then began emitting smoke.

The shocked homeowner threw her phone onto the floor where it continued to sizzle and pop for another three minutes.

Chen claimed her phone then caught fire and melted part of the device’s housing, leaving it charred and misshapen.

It also did not completely cool down until about four hours later, she claimed.

She took her iPhone 7 Plus back to the retailer and the staff there have since taken the device in to inspect it.

They have promised to reimburse her as soon as their conclude their investigation, but Chen says she might not want another Apple phone.
